The 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LTD vs. The 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
The pandemic threw a rod into the spokes of the car production wheel, as well as car sales. Dealers and manufacturers had to adjust. Chevrolet dealt with the 2022 Silverado 1500 in a unique way – bringing back the Limited – abbreviated LTD – model designation.
Chevy has used this in the past, but more often than not it has been used for fleet sales. It essentially means a vehicle using the previous design, being produced in the same model year as a new, redesigned model debuts. In this case, the 2022 Silverado 1500 is a fully redesigned truck, while the 2022 Silverado 1500 LTD is the same design as the 2021 truck, just produced for the 2022 model year. So how do these compare next to each other?

Performance
Both the 2022 Silverado 1500 and 2022 Silverado 1500 LTD offer an incredible range of powertrain options that you can fine-tune to fit your needs. Both start out with the 2.7-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine – although in the 2022 Silverado, you get 430 lb-ft of torque thanks to improved tuning, outclassing the 348 lb-ft in the Silverado 1500 LTD. Both also offer two different 5.3-liter engines, a 6.2-liter V8, and a 3.0-liter turbocharged diesel six-cylinder. The major difference comes with the discontinuation of the 4.3-liter EcoTec3 V6 engine that is available in the LTD. With the torque upgrade to the four-cylinder engine, Chevy didn’t feel this engine was necessary any longer – the 2.7-liter offers more power while needing less fuel.

Design & Comfort
There are some clear differences from outside, thanks to the redesign of the 2022 Silverado 1500. This features the impressive grille that is the centerpiece of the broad, muscular redesign of the Silverado. The Silverado LTD still features the old-style body. There’s no particular reason to choose one over the other, it’s simply a matter of taste. Other exterior features that have been updated include new bumpers, headlamps, and wheel options.
Inside, both the LTD and the 2022 Silverado offer everything from budget-minded commuter trucks and work vehicles, up to luxury highway cruisers. It’s all a matter of how you want to spec your vehicle out, and how much you want to pay. Appearance packages and options packages are available on top of the basic trim level features – mix and match to get the Silverado of your dreams!
Technology
The upgraded available 13.4-inch diagonal HD color touch-screen with Google built-in compatibility for the 2022 Silverado 1500 is a game-changer compared to the 8-inch that tops off the Silverado 1500 LTD line-up. The high-definition screen is much more clear and accessible, and is impressive seated in the dash. Google Assistant, Google Maps, and Google Play have access directly on the infotainment screen, while Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity are standard. This screen is standard on the LT trim and above, and also includes In-Vehicle Apps. Other technology upgrades on the 2022 Silverado over the LTD includes wireless charging for smartphones available in the three mid-tier trims and standard on the top three trims – on the LTD, it is standard on only the top trim, and an option only on the LTZ trim. This increased tech availability makes the new model year much more desirable than the LTD.

Safety
Both the 2022 Silverado 1500 and the 2022 Silverado 1500 LTD offer basic safety tech, including a rearview camera, tire pressure monitoring, and other simple systems. The Chevy Safety Assist suite is offered on both models, and includes Front Pedestrian Braking, Automatic Emergency Braking, Forward Collision Alert, Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning, and the Following Distance Indicator. However, in a change from the LTD, the 2022 Silverado 1500 provides this as standard equipment across the entire model line-up.
Possibly the most impressive addition in the 2022 Silverado 1500 over the LTD is where technology and safety comes together, with the Super Cruise system. This hands-free driver assistance technology, only available on select High Country models, uses real-time precise positioning cameras, sensors and LiDAR map data to help detect curves and the road ahead. This allows the Adaptive Cruise Control to control acceleration and braking to help maintain a driver-selected following gap time. This potentially permits hands-free operation of the vehicle – albeit, with an attentive driver, and only under the proper conditions. What makes it particularly unique is that, on the Silverado, it can be used even with a trailer being towed behind! This is Chevy’s first step towards a hands-free future, and is expected to reduce accidents greatly.
